Pet Memorials
A memorial is an object used to remember a deceased person or an event which has made a lasting impression. A memorial can either be a stone tablet, obelisk or cross though more recent examples include planting a tree in memory of a loved one or dedicating a sum of money to a charity.
These types of memorials have now been expanded to include pets: for many people, a pet is seen as part of the family and so when that pet dies, the feelings of grief can be compared to the loss of a member of that family.
A pet memorial can be constructed out of wood, stone, ceramic or slate with the option of having an engraved photograph of the deceased pet. The name of that pet can also be added. The memorial is often placed in a garden or chosen spot and tends to be impervious to the weather conditions.
There are other ways of remembering a deceased pet such as urns, crosses and plaques though these appear to be less popular.
What is interesting to note is that with the growth of interest in
eco-issues, such as sustainability, there are memorials which are
both bio-degradable and kind to the environment.
